Mike Kendall

Head of Earth Sciences, Oxford University

Appointed Head of the Department of Earth Sciences in March 2022, Mike is a seismologist whose work has taken him to the hottest and coldest places on Earth to study the Earth from its core to its surface. He is especially interested in the role of Geophysics as it relates to the world’s energy demands. He has held faculty positions at the Universities of Toronto, Leeds and Bristol, and was previously president of the British Geophysical Association and vice-president (Geophysics) of the Royal Astronomical Society. In 2011 Mike was elected a fellow of the American Geophysical Union and in 2019 he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society.
